The Millennium Native Forest Reserve - Masterton

Returning to the main track and keep heading in an easterly direction, we quickly come to a path leading off to the left. If we make quick
diversion here, just a few metres along the path we come come to another viewing deck. This overlooks the wet-land area of the Reserve.
Well planted with sedges and grasses it has become the home for pukeko and other wetland loving creatures. Up to a few years ago
there was quite a large family of pukeko that had become well established in this wetland. Sadly a dog running loose in the Reserve killed
a great many of them. In the last couple of years a new family has set up home and it is hoped that they will quickly replace the lost ones.
